Document presented by lawyers points out that the former president is suffering from ‘persistent pain and functional incapacity’ in the region
The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), on Tuesday (21), authorization for the performing surgery no right shoulder. The request asks urgency in evaluation so that the procedure can be carried out on Friday (24) or Saturday (25).
According to the document, Bolsonaro presents a framework of “persistent pain e functional disability” on the shoulder even after trying conservative treatments e daily use of painkillers. Physical and imaging exams indicated:
- High-grade injury no supraspinatus tendon – part responsible for raising the arm -;
- Important pullback;
- Compromise of other joint structuresknown as “rotator cuff”;
Arthroscopic repair surgery was formally recommended by orthopedic doctor Alexandre Firmino Paniago.
Lawyers argue that the request is “strictly humanitarian e sanitary“, aiming to preserve the physical integrity and quality of life of the applicant, and emphasize that this is not a matter of personal convenience, but a “concrete therapeutic need”.
Former president under house arrest
Bolsonaro is serving a prison sentence 27 years e 3 months in prison for coup attempt and other crimes. On March 24th, minister Alexandre de Moraes by 90 dias. The decision came after he spent weeks in the ICU of a hospital in Brasília to treat a bilateral bacterial bronchopneumonia.
According to the latest medical report sent to the STF last week, the former president’s lung condition shows one in his left lung.
Despite responding positively to antibiotics, the medical team reported that the rehabilitation process has been challenging. During physiotherapy sessions, Bolsonaro has reported strong muscle fatigueloss of balance – caused by medications – and pain in the dorsal regionin addition to having faced an episode of hiccups which lasted about eight hours.
