Corinthians: Diniz evaluates victory against Barra and explains changes to the team

Coach Fernando Diniz, from Corinthians, assessed the team’s victory over Barra, this Tuesday (21), in Florianópolis, in the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil. The coach also explained the choice to take a modified team to the field, preserving the starters.

The coach didn’t like Timão’s first half at Ressacada, but valued the improvement in the second half, with more shots.

“I think that in the first half we were very bad in the offensive organization. We scored well, we protected ourselves, we have to improve. It was a very changed team. I agree that we lacked finishing. We didn’t arrive much in the first half, but we grew in the second”, said Diniz at a press conference.

When talking about the option of choosing an alternative team, the Corinthians coach said that the decision was made based on several factors, including the opportunity to better observe other players in the squad, such as , scorer of the match’s goal.

“After the game against Santa Fe, I said that a player is not just muscle and bone. But he is too. Putting together all the components, data, and talking to the players, I thought it was very important to preserve the players. In the end, only Gustavo Henrique, the starter, played. It was a modified team. It was the sum of all factors. I’m an open guy, I like to talk to make decisions. The level of the squad is homogeneous, high”, he added.

Corinthians, it is worth remembering, lost in the first half, due to a knee problem. The player will be better evaluated this Wednesday (23).

“Hopefully it’s nothing serious. He left, did preliminary tests, but it’s premature to say anything. Knee, we have to wait for the imaging test so we don’t rush. The fans are big so there’s nothing serious there,” he commented.

When will the return between Corinthians x Barra be?

Corinthians and Barra face each other again on May 14th, at 7:30 pm, at Neo Química Arena. A draw already guarantees Timão’s qualification for the next phase.
