Most of students in Portugal you are not getting the sleep you shouldaccording to the study Well-Being, Psychological Health and Addictive Behaviors, from the Institute for Addictive Behaviors and Addictions.
The analysis was carried out with around 11 thousand students from Portuguese public education (almost 2 thousand schools) between 13 and 18 years old – that is, students from 3rd cycle of basic education and teaching secondary.
The survey shows that 24.7% never feel rested when they wake up; 21.7% wake up tired sometimes and 14% wake up tired more than half the time.
All together means that 60.4% of students sleep poorlyconcludes the city survey .
There are still other data on a psychological level: 13% of students suffer from anxiety, 10% of “severe or very severe levels” of depression and 7% of stress.
And they are the girls who become more depressed, anxious and stressed.
Anxiety, depression and stress are related to consumption of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and other drugs, tranquilizers and sedatives.
Almost half (48%) of young people consumed alcohol in the last year; 6% turned to illicit drugs. 7% of students took medications without medical advice.
The study authors also leave a warning, in a comparison with social networks and screens: “If currently discussion of the impact of addictive behaviors in young people’s mental health focuses mainly on the issue of time spent screen and participation in social media, What can be seen is that these do not stand out as the practices most related to the psychological health of students, attention should also be paid to the consumption of alcohol, illicit drugs and psychoactive medication”.
