The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in a publication on the Truth Social network in the early hours of Wednesday (22) that Iran is in financial collapse and wants the Strait of Hormuz to reopen, stating that the country’s military and police are not receiving it.
“Iran is in financial collapse! They want the Strait of Hormuz to open immediately – they are desperate for money! They lose 500 million dollars a day. Military and police complain that they are not receiving their salaries. SOS!!!” he wrote.
The post came hours after Trump said this to allow more time for diplomacy in the seven-week war.
Trump said he asked him to delay a planned U.S. attack so Iranian leaders and representatives could work on a unified proposal.
however, publicly rejected the idea that Tehran had sought an extension of the ceasefire and reiterated threats to break the American blockade by force.
Trump extends ceasefire
American President Donald Trump announced, on Tuesday (21), that he would allow new peace negotiations. It is not yet clear whether Iran or Israel, the United States’ war ally, would agree.
The US leader said in a statement on social media that Washington agreed to a request from Pakistani mediators “to suspend our attack on Iran until its leaders and representatives reach a unified proposal… and discussions are concluded, one way or another.”
There was no immediate response from senior Iranian officials to Trump’s announcement on Wednesday, although some initial reactions from Tehran suggested the American’s comments were being met with skepticism.
Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said Iran had not requested an extension of the ceasefire and reiterated threats to break the American blockade by force.
An aide to Iran’s chief negotiator, parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, said Trump’s announcement .
