Brazil ended 2025 with a total production of 89.9 million tons of feed, which represented an increase of 2.8% compared to the previous year. This level consolidated the country as the third largest producer in the world, behind only China and the United States. The data is in the Agri-Food Outlook 2026 report, released by Alltech, a global leader in animal nutrition.
According to the report, worldwide, feed tonnage reached 1.4 billion tons. And the national variation was very close to the global index (2.9%). Alltech’s annual feed survey is based on data from 142 countries and 38,837 feed mills.
Figures from the 15th edition of the survey indicate that Brazil’s feed industry is experiencing broad expansion, benefiting from a boost in exports, strong demand for domestic proteins and improved cost structures. Last year, all species categories recorded growth in the country.

Broilers – Feed tonnage increased by 2.7% (+1 million tons), with production reaching record levels, supported by robust domestic consumption (47.8 kilograms per capita annually) and stable exports despite trade disruptions related to bird flu.
Aquaculture – The amount of feed increased by 8.9% (+160 thousand tons), reflecting the advance in the production of farmed fish, led by tilapia. The increase in retail prices for beef and pork further stimulated fish consumption in the domestic market.
Beef cattle – Feed production rose 7.1% (+510 thousand tonnes), supported by improved feedlot margins due to lower feed costs, affordable replacement livestock and strong export flows, despite domestic consumption facing purchasing power constraints.
Pigs – The quantity of feed expanded by 1.9% (+400 thousand tons), following higher slaughter volumes and growth in exports, with annual feed production projected at 22 million tons.
Dairy cattle – Feed volume increased 2.8% (+200 thousand tons), supported by a 10% increase in raw milk purchases in the third quarter and stronger milk prices encouraging herd expansion.

Other species – According to the research, there was also an increase in Brazilian production of feed for laying birds (2.4%), pets (0.7%) and horses (0.3%).
Global data
Globally, most regions and sectors showed growth, and the numbers indicate a strong recovery phase for animal production. However, growth was uneven, increasingly regionalized and driven less by herd expansion than by structural changes, productivity gains and changes in the way production is measured.
