The former president of Banco Regional de Brasília (BRB) Paulo Henrique Costa decided to change his defense team and chose a lawyer with experience in plea bargains.
Costa communicated the exchange this Wednesday, 22nd, to criminalist Cléber Lopes, who was responsible for his defense. Lopes has a close relationship with the former governor of the Federal District Ibaneis Rocha and, in his defense of the case, he had maintained that the purchase operation of Banco Master by BRB respected technical criteria.
The former president of the BRB chose lawyers Eugênio Aragão, who was previously Deputy Attorney General of the Republic and Minister of Justice in the Dilma Rousseff government, and Davi Tangerino for his defense. Tangerino worked on plea bargains involving Americanas executives and has experience in the criminal-business area.
Paulo Henrique Costa was arrested last week by the Federal Police, in the fourth phase of Operation Compliance Zero, on suspicion of having received R$140 million in property bribes to favor Daniel Vorcaro in negotiating the sale of Master to BRB.
The virtual plenary of the Second Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) began judging this Wednesday, 22nd, whether his arrest will continue. So far, rapporteur André Mendonça has voted for the arrest and was accompanied by minister Luiz Fux. Dias Toffoli declared himself a suspect. The votes of Gilmar Mendes and Kassio Nunes Marques are missing.
