LA-2028 organizers sell 4 million tickets – 04/23/2026 – Sports

Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics said on Thursday they have sold more than 4 million tickets in the first phase of sales this month, an early sign of strong demand for the Summer Games more than two years before the opening ceremony.

Officials also reported that registration has opened at Tickets.LA28.org for its second ticket draw, with sales expected to begin in August 2026. The next phase will offer new inventory across all Olympic disciplines and a variety of price points, according to the organizing committee.

“The response to our initial sale has been nothing short of historic,” Reynold Hoover, executive director of LA28, said in a statement.

LA28 reported that 95% of tickets priced under US$100 (R$496) were sold during a pre-sale to residents of the Los Angeles and Oklahoma City regions, and around 500,000 tickets priced at US$28 (R$139) were purchased by local buyers.

Some residents, however, complained about the high prices, fees and limited availability during pre-sales.

Global demand

Organizers said tickets were sold in 85 countries and all 50 U.S. states and territories, with the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico and Japan among the top international markets.

The organizing committee said the women’s Olympic sessions sold at a faster pace than the men’s sessions in the first wave, while artistic gymnastics was the fastest-selling sport. It also reported that almost all tickets released for football matches in seven venues across the country have been sold.

Tickets for flag football, lacrosse, softball and squash — sports added to the LA28 program — sold out in the first phase of sales, the committee said.

Fans can sign up for the next giveaway until July 22nd. Those selected will be notified by email and will be able to purchase up to 12 tickets for Olympic events, in addition to up to 12 tickets for the football tournament that do not count towards the overall limit, LA28 reported.

Los Angeles will become the third city to host the Summer Olympics three times, after hosting the Games in 1932 and 1984. The city will also host the Paralympics for the first time.
