Response teams intensified patrolling in localities with an increased incidence of brown bears. The measure comes in connection with the increased movement of people in nature. TASR was informed about this by the State Nature Protection (ŠOP) SR. It also warns of the beginning of the bear rut.
He especially appeals for increased caution in the Urpín Hill area in Banská Bystrica. Even after the last attack, the emergency teams of the ŠOP continue to record the movement of brown bear individuals there. At the same time, he again calls on citizens, mayors and mayors to actively cooperate in reporting bear sightings. Timely information enables a quick and effective response by emergency teams, also in cooperation with local hunting associations.
As a prevention, he recommends avoiding activities at dawn, dusk and during the night, when bears are most active. Also, limit movement in unclear and densely overgrown terrain, use marked hiking trails and pay attention to bear signs of residence, such as tracks or droppings.
“When encountering a bear, keep calm, do not make sudden movements, move away slowly and do not turn your back on it. If the animal retreats, do not irritate it and wait. In case of danger, call 112,” remind the state conservationists. The public can also contact the individual intervention teams directly, contacts are available on the website of ŠOP.
