According to Iran’s foreign minister, it remains to be seen whether the United States is serious about diplomacy. Abbas Arákčí said this on the X social network after his visit to Pakistan, where he held talks with the highest representatives of this country, which mediates peace talks between Washington and Tehran, reports TASR.
“A very fruitful visit to Pakistan, whose mediation efforts and fraternal efforts to restore peace in our region are highly appreciated,” wrote the head of Iranian diplomacy. “We shared Iran’s position regarding a workable framework for a permanent end to the war against Iran. We will see if the US is really serious about diplomacy,” he stated.
Arákči left Pakistan on Saturday afternoon after negotiations with local officials and is continuing his diplomatic journey with stops in Oman and Russia. The media reported that he might return to Pakistan to meet the American envoys there early next week. US President Donald However, Trump has since canceled the planned trip of his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad.
The AFP agency reminds that even before Trump’s announcement of the cancellation of their trip, the prospect of new negotiations was uncertain, as Iranian state TV reported that Arakhchi had no plans to meet with the Americans and that they would only pass on Iran’s proposals in Islamabad.
