An informal summit of the leaders of EU member states was held in the Cypriot resort of Agia Napa from Thursday. To begin with, the heads of state and government held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, approximately five hours after the final approval of the payment of a loan for Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros and the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions.
On Friday, the summit continued in Nicosia, where state representatives negotiated the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028-2034 and also met with Mediterranean representatives. Slovakia was represented by Prime Minister Robert Fico, who during the Friday briefing of his Polish counterpart took care of a funny moment that went viral on social networks.
“Yesterday you could sense a great sense of relief among the leaders, as it was the first time in years that there were no Russians in the room, if you know what I’m talking about. But kidding aside . . .” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in front of journalists, alluding to Viktor Orbán, well that’s when Robert Fico appeared behind him and greeted with.
When the Slovak prime minister left, Tuska turned and winked with a laugh. “Are you sure?” one of the journalists present asked him. “No, no, it’s a joke,” added the Polish prime minister.
