The president of , Edinho Silva, said this Sunday (26) that the anti-system discourse belongs to the left and criticized what he called the “business counter” in conversations between the Legislative and Executive. He spoke at the end of , in Brasília.
The PT and President Luiz Inácio da Silva (PT), who will run for re-election this year, are trying to position themselves for the senator (-RJ), the main right-wing pre-candidate. Flávio is the son of the former president (PL).
“If you have [pensamento] anti-system, the anti-system response is on the left, it is not on the right, it is not in fascism. The response to the anti-system is with us”, said Edinho.
The PT member also criticized the imposing amendments, which, according to him, “usurp” the rights of the Presidency of the Republic. Amendments are fractions of the Budget whose fates are decided by deputies and senators. Taxes must be paid regardless of the wishes of the current government.
As part of the same reasoning, the party leader criticized the way in which political negotiations take place between the Legislative and Executive branches. The release of resources for works on the political bases of deputies and senators is one of the main mechanisms that governments have to obtain support in Congress.
“We cannot be in favor of a political system that transforms negotiations between the Executive and Legislative branches into a business counter”, declared Edinho Silva.
The PT member also stated that “the fundamental debate of the moment” is national sovereignty. The topic is dear to Lula and permeates his entire political career, but it gained strength last year. The president managed to increase his popularity when he responded to the tariffs imposed by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, on Brazilian products.
Lula has made serial counterpoints to the American as a way of trying to strengthen his own image. The topic is also explored by other PT members. “If the Bolsonaro family wants to hand over our rare earth reserves to Trump, we don’t,” declared Edinho.
The party president said that members of the party must be humble and ask groups that reject the party what the reason for the rejection is. He cited as an example groups of young evangelicals who do not accept talking to the PT, among other segments of society.
Edinho stated that it differs from attacks on Justice made by PT opponents.
“We have always defended reform of the judiciary. Not reform of the judiciary in the conception of the Bolsonaro family, who want to weaken the judiciary because they know that weak judiciary is the first step to installing authoritarianism,” he declared.
Edinho’s speech was the last of the PT Congress. Before him, PT members such as former ministers and, in addition to the governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, spoke.
Haddad said that the Lula government rebuilt the country after the Bolsonaro administration, but that this is not enough. The former minister defended “offering the Brazilian people a government program that goes beyond what we have already done.” He is a pre-candidate for governor of São Paulo.
During the week, Lula was expected to participate in the PT congress. The President of the Republic, however, in São Paulo on Friday (24). He removed basal cell cancer from his scalp. This is the least serious and most common type of skin cancer.
