A chief from the União Progressista federation (União Brasil/PP) claims that Zema will be one of the most important themes of the election. He predicts that the court’s image will tend to worsen in the coming months and that the former governor of Minas Gerais managed to capitalize on the issue with public opinion.
Another advantage pointed out by is helping the candidate in his home state, considered key to the election. Furthermore, the former two-term governor would alleviate criticism that the senator is inexperienced and too young.
The formation of the alliance is still not consensual among Bolsonarists, however. One part understands that it would be more interesting to count on Zema as a candidate in the first round, to help wear down Lula.
The Novo candidate himself has said that he will maintain his candidacy until the end, but members of his party do not rule out a composition closer to the party conventions, in the middle of the year.
