The binational agreement aims to establish synergies in critical areas for industrial development, with a focus on biodiesel production.

The strategic alliance between Mexico and Brazil is the result of previous discussions between Sheinbaum and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, aiming to generate regional economic impact.

The collaboration includes exploration and production in deep waters, with an emphasis on technology, biodiesel and ethanol, aiming for energy self-sufficiency and position in the global market.

Lula and Sheinbaum’s connection

Sheinbaum had stated that he had not yet made a decision on ‌the proposal made by Lula for the state-owned oil companies ‌Pemex and Petrobras to form an alliance for exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. Lula had called Sheinbaum to propose an alliance between the two companies, highlighting Petrobras’ vast experience in oil production in deep waters.

Pemex does not have experience in deep waters, but currently maintains two partnerships with private companies in these areas.
