Loulé and Tavira host organic farming technical days

Al-Bio – Algarve Agroecological Association promotes, on the 2nd and 3rd of May, the third edition of the Algarve Biological Agriculture Technical Days, bringing together producers, technicians and experts in the field.

The initiative takes place in two different locations: at Quinta do Freixo, in Loulé, and at Quinta das Sesmarias da Corte e Clube de Tavira, in the municipality of Tavira.

Loulé and Tavira host organic farming technical days

The non-profit association is made up of certified farmers and operators and is dedicated to promoting organic and agroecological agriculture in the region.

According to the organization, the objective is to “strengthen the Algarve’s organic production network”, promoting the sharing of knowledge and good practices.

Program includes field visits and technical sessions

The program, which is free to participate in, includes technical information actions and field visits to agricultural holdings and production units.

At Quinta do Freixo, the visit focuses on the holistic management and grazing of animals, as well as the processing units, including the distillery.

At Quinta das Sesmarias da Corte, the focus will be on orchards of subtropical and rainfed trees, developed in certified organic production.

The days also include technical sessions on crops such as carob trees, strawberry trees and fig trees, as well as presentations on the challenges and opportunities of a possible bio-region in the Algarve.

Guest experts share knowledge

For this edition, Al-Bio invited a group of leading experts in the areas of agriculture, environment and regional development.

Among the speakers are Miguel Freitas, former Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, and Custódio Oliveira, president of IN.NER Portugal.

Technicians and researchers such as Ana Arsénio, Adriana Guerreiro and Conceição Silva also participate, as well as Armindo Jacinto, president of Naturtejo Geopark.

The organization emphasizes that these contributions aim to “deepen the technical and strategic knowledge of the sector”.

Registration open and free participation

All activities are free, with the exception of lunches, which are optional and subject to prior reservation.

Al-Bio invites “farmers, technicians, curious people and the general public” to participate and publicize the initiative.

The event has the support of several regional and national entities and is part of the Action Plan to Safeguard the Mediterranean Diet.
