Brazilian mother and daughter are killed in Israeli attack in Lebanon

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Monday night, the 27th, the death of a Brazilian woman and an 11-year-old boy, mother and son, in an attack by the Israeli defense forces on Lebanon. In addition to the two, the father of the family, a Lebanese national, also passed away.

Another of the couple’s children, also Brazilian, is hospitalized, but Itamaraty did not provide further details about his age or health status. The family was at home, in the Bint Jeil district, in southern Lebanon, at the time of the Israeli bombing.

In an official note, the ministry stated that the attack constitutes yet another violation of the ceasefire in the war that pits Israel and the United States against Iran and recalled that these violations have already resulted in the deaths of dozens of Lebanese civilians, including women and children, a journalist and two French soldiers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil).

Itamaraty called for peace and condemned the attacks carried out during the ceasefire, whether by Israel or the radical Shiite militia Hezbollah, as well as the demolitions of houses and other civil structures carried out in Lebanon by Israeli forces.

The ministry also reported that it is in contact with the family of the deceased Brazilians to provide assistance, including for their hospitalized son.

In theory, Israel and Hezbollah are in a ceasefire, which began on April 17 and was due to expire on Sunday the 26th, but was extended for another three weeks, according to United States President Donald Trump. In practice, however, the two sides continue to attack each other.

A survey carried out by Agence France-Presse (AFP), based on data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, showed that at least 36 people have died in Israeli attacks since the start of the ceasefire.
