The Government of the State of São Paulo mapped 545 thousand households in rural areas to identify investment needs in water and sewage. The objective is to reach 820 thousand rural households, in 371 municipalities.
Around 1.2 million people live in rural areas in the state, which represents approximately 3% of the population.
The census, part of the Brotar Project, is carried out by , based on a term of reference written by the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil). Since April last year, when mapping began, 120,000 rural households have been visited
Data collection has been carried out by 550 census takers and includes georeferenced data on access to water and sewage.
“Moving to rural areas is also a question of quality of life and structured development. We are moving forward to ensure that these populations have access to essential services, with solutions compatible with their realities”, says Natália Resende, the state’s Secretary of Environment and Infrastructure.
