Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes said during the plenary trial this Tuesday (28) that some politicians use the Judiciary power as an “electoral ladder” as part of your campaigns. “Politicians who do not have the necessary votes to achieve candidacies end up wanting to offend the Judiciary, the honor and dignity of members of the Judiciary, using us as an electoral ladder,” he said.

Moraes also highlighted that “recent research” showed that these politicians stop discussing important topics for their candidacies such as: health, education, public security or what they did in their mandates and start to “taking a ladder in an alleged polarization against the STF” not in a critical way, but with “verbal aggression”.

STF x Zema conflict

The former governor of Minas Gerais and pre-presidential candidate Romeu Zema (Novo) published a satire video, on March 1st, which portrays STF minister Gilmar Mendes, asking for an exchange of favors from magistrate Dias Toffoli amid the Banco Master scandal.

After the miner’s posts, Gilmar Mendes sent a representation to minister Alexandre de Moraes on April 20 asking for an investigation of the presidential candidate. The minister pointed out suspected signs of crime in the publication.

Moraes asked for a statement from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) before deciding whether to include Zema in the research.

The video published by Zema portrayed a conversation between two dolls, characterized by puppet designs, which would represent Dias Toffoli and Gilmar Mendes. In the publication, Toffoli calls Gilmar and asks him to cancel his company’s breaches of confidentialityapproved by the Senate’s Organized Crime CPI.

Zema compares ministers to the Portuguese crown

One day after sending Gilmar Mendes’ representation, on the day of the Inconfidência Mineira, Zema made another publication criticizing the STF. The former governor compared the ministers and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the Portuguese crown.

“Do you think we are truly free? I don’t think so. In place of the Portuguese Crown, the untouchables of Brasília sat. The sold-out politicians, the thieving businessmen and the judges who think they are above good and evil”, he says in an excerpt from the publication.

The representation that alludes to the Inconfidência Mineira brings images of artificial intelligence with the faces of ministers Gilmar Mendes and Alexandre de Moraes, as well as president Lula and banker Daniel Vorcaro.
