Since last fall, attackers have been trying to gain control of user accounts of the encrypted messenger Signal. While such messages were initially sent to apparently random people, these attacks have been very targeted since January. They are primarily directed against politicians, journalists and military personnel. One particularly high-profile case has ensured that the “Signal affair” has kept Germany in suspense for some time.
