British King Charles III. and Queen Kamila arrived in Washington on Monday for a four-day official visit to the United States. He will welcome them in the White House on the same day US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trumpwrites TASR according to an AFP report.
This is the first visit of the British king to the USA since his coronation in 2022. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Monday that the royal couple’s trip aims to “to honor the longstanding and special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom”. The American president and the first lady will welcome the British royal couple to the White House on Monday. Later, they will have a joint tea party and see the new beehive that Trump had installed on the grounds of the US president’s residence.
The British monarch’s trip coincides with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States’ declaration of independence. So called “special relationship” however, in recent weeks, the war between the USA and Iran also affected it. According to AFP, this is part of a diplomatic offensive aimed at charming Trump, who is “obsessed with royalty”.
The head of the White House will receive the British royal couple in the Oval Office on Tuesday, and later they will have a joint dinner. The monarch will also give a speech in the US Congress – the first time since 1991, when the poor Queen Elizabeth II appeared before the congressmen. On Wednesday, Karol and Kamila will visit New York, where they will see the memorial to the victims of September 11, 2001. On Thursday, they will travel to the Bermuda Islands, where Charles will visit one of the UK’s overseas territories for the first time as a monarch.
