15 minutes: corruption crimes in Operation Marquês about to expire

10 minutes: Sócrates is without a lawyer (again)

Corruption crimes within the scope of Operation Marquês linked to Vale do Lobo begin to expire this week. José Sócrates reacts and insists that the accusation was never founded.

The first crimes to fall should be those of active corruption, with the final decision still being made by judge Susana Seca. The crimes of passive corruption, which involve José Sócrates and Armando Vara, may also expire in June. The Public Ministry maintains that around one million euros were paid to facilitate financing of more than 200 million euros for the Vale do Lobo project, in the Algarve. While some defendants benefit from the statute of limitations, they continue to face charges for other crimes, in a process that once again exposes the delay in justice.
