President of the Chamber reinforced the intention of the vote to be held by the end of May
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicanos-PB), he stated in an interview with CNN Brazilthis Tuesday (April 28, 2026), that the choice of the command of the special commission on the 6 X 1 scale aims to guarantee a balanced debate, without harm to the economy or the productive sector. The congressman announced the deputy(Republicanos-BA) as rapporteur and deputy (PT-SP) for the presidency of the collegiate.
“We chose 2 deputies who have extensive dialogue in the House and familiarity with the topic. This is important so as not to let society know that we are building a matter of this scope in just 30 days”said Motta.
According to the president of the Chamber, both have been discussing the topic since 2025. Motta stated that he asked the nominees to lead the debate by listening to workers, the productive sector and the federal government. “We do not want this debate to harm our economy and the productive sector”he reinforced.

The president of the Chamber also defended that the change be through a PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution), and not through a PL (Bill), as sent by the federal government. For him, the use of a PL could generate “legal uncertainty”.
“We are sure that the appropriate legislative vehicle is the PEC. By Bill, we could create legal uncertainty about the possibility of reducing working hours or not”Motta told the newspaper Hour H.
According to the deputy, the processing schedule was already defined before the government sent the PL with constitutional urgency. “We respect the prerogative of the President of the Republic, but we had already established this schedule, and it is what will be followed in the Chamber”, he stated.
