Tabata Amaral will be rapporteur for the Misogyny Bill in the Chamber

The deputy is already heading the working group on the topic; opinion must be presented by the beginning of June

The federal deputy (PSB-SP) will be the rapporteur of the Misogyny Bill in the Chamber. The proposal, which includes the crime in the Racism Law (Law No. 7,716 of 1989, was approved in March in the Senate and will be analyzed by deputies.

The congresswoman is already the coordinator of the working group created by the president of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), to debate the topic. The collegiate begins functioning next week.

It is expected that the GT’s opinion will be presented by the beginning of June so that the project can be debated by the rest of the deputies.

Earlier, the deputy met with Motta to evaluate a schedule for the proposal. According to the president of Casa Baixa, 4 public hearings will be held. The objective is to construct a viable text. The proposal was criticized by the opposition after being approved in the Senate.

“The working group will start next week and our objective is to create the best text possible, combating violence against women at any level”, Motta told journalists.

The text approved by the Upper House defines misogyny as conduct that “externalize hatred or aversion to women”. With the new rule, crimes committed based on this prejudice will receive the same legal treatment as crimes of racism, being non-bailable and imprescriptible.

If the proposal is approved by the Chamber and sanctioned by the president (PT), swearing at someone who offends dignity or decorum due to misogyny will be punishable by 2 to 5 years, in addition to a fine. Practicing, inducing or inciting discrimination or prejudice against women will also become a crime, with a penalty of 1 to 3 years.
