Glass-breaking gang: understand the techniques of criminals in SP

The action of groups known as “Glass Breaker Gang” has generated alert among drivers in São Paulo.

The method used by criminals to access the interior of vehicles involves the use of small fragments of spark plugsa technique that allows tempered glass to shatter quickly and with little physical effort.

This Thursday (30), in the city center to combat drug trafficking and theft and robbery crimes known as “glass breakers”.

How the technique works

Unlike impact with heavy objects, the technique is based on the hardness of the ceramics that covers the spark plug. Criminals break the piece to obtain small pieces, popularly known as “borrinha”.

When thrown against the side window of the car, these fragments cause a point of concentrated tension that leads to the total fragmentation of the glass almost instantly.

The use of this material is strategic for crime due to the low noise produced at the time of the break, which makes it difficult for pedestrians or nearby security systems to perceive it.

Furthermore, the ease of transportation and disposal of small pieces of ceramic helps in escaping and hiding the tool used in the crime.

The police recommend that drivers avoid leaving valuable objects, such as backpacks, notebooks and cell phones, exposed on the seats, which reduces the vehicle’s attractiveness for these quick approaches to traffic lights and parking areas.
