Unemployment rises and reaches 6.1% in the quarter ended in March, says IBGE

The unemployment rate in Brazil was 6,1% no quarter ended in Marchaccording to data contained in the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Pnad Contínua) released this Thursday (30), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The result was close to the ceiling of the estimates collected by Projeções Broadcast, whose range ranged from a floor of 5.9% to a ceiling of 6.2%, with a median of 6%.

The unemployment rate in the country went up againrising from 5.8% in the quarter ended in February to 6.1% in the quarter ended in March. The result was the highest since the quarter ending in May 2025when it was at 6.2%.

However, the unemployment rate is lowest level for quarters ending in March in the entire survey historical seriesstarted in 2012. In the same period of the previous year, the unemployment rate measured by Pnad Contínua was 7.0%.
