The French police detained a 15-year-old hacker suspected of attacking the state portal ANTS. It was supposed to offer millions of sensitive user data for sale.
The French prosecutor’s office suspects a 15-year-old boy of a large-scale cyber attack on the state portal, which is used for issuing and registering identity documents and vehicle registration. The teenager was detained. TASR writes about it according to the report of the DPA agency.
Investigators believe the boy offered for sale between 12 and 18 million records from the National Security Agency’s (ANTS) website. According to the Home Office, around 11.7 million accounts were hacked. However, the hacker was unable to gain access to the biometric data or the attached documents.
The ANTS website allows users, among other things, to submit applications and book appointments for document processing. Data including usernames and birth names, email addresses and dates of birth – and in some cases postal addresses and phone numbers – were stolen in the cyber attack, which took place in mid-April.
