Lula targets truck drivers and launches Move Brasil with R$21.2 billion in credit

Program will be used to renew truck and bus fleets; reaches the transport sector with expanded access to financing

The president’s government (PT) announced, this Thursday (April 30, 2026), in a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto, the 2nd phase of the Move Brasil program. R$21.2 billion will be allocated in credit lines for the purchase of trucks and buses and road equipment.

The 1st phase of the program, announced in January 2026, allocated R$10 billion in credits to the sector. Prices were sold out in 90 days.

There are R$14.5 billion in resources from the Treasury, with an additional contribution of R$6.7 billion from BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development). Of the amount, R$2 billion is allocated to self-employed truck drivers and another R$2 billion to bus lines.

The conditions for accessing credit have also changed:

  • grace period went from 6 to 12 months for self-employed people;
  • extended payment period from 5 to 10 years;
  • reduced interest rates.

The president stated that, by the end of 2026, 41 new rest areas for truck drivers will also be created. “We did this by obliging, in all road concessions that we make, that companies build [esses espaços]he declared.

According to the Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce, Márcio Elias Rosa, Move Brasil 2, announced this Thursday (April 30), is “credit with destination and productive result. It reduces the cost for those who transport, strengthens those who manufacture, modernizes our infrastructure and contributes to safer and more sustainable transport”.

MOVE BRAZIL

In January 2026, the government launched the Move Brasil program to finance the purchase of new and pre-owned trucks by self-employed people, cooperatives and companies in the road freight transport sector.

The 1st part of the program offered R$10 billion in credit, with resources from the National Treasury and BNDES. Of the total amount, R$1 billion was reserved exclusively for self-employed and cooperative truck drivers.
