Senate Committee approves disclosure of flagrant incidents in stores

The CSP (Public Security Commission) of the Senate approved, this Tuesday (April 28, 2026), a bill that authorizes the use and disclosure of personal data, such as images and audios, in cases of flagrant crime in businesses. The proposal authored by the deputy (PL-DF) received a favorable opinion from the senator (PP-SC), author of the commission’s report. Now, it goes to the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission).

The changes to the General Personal Data Protection Law (). The text aims to authorize the use and dissemination of records of crimes committed in commercial environments, such as stores and supermarkets, as long as specific criteria are observed.

The proposal establishes that disclosure must have the purpose of identifying the offender, alerting the population or collaborating with the authorities.

The text also determines that third parties who are not involved in the crime cannot be exposed. It also states that the principles of necessity and proportionality must be respected in the use of images and audio.

If you disclose the images, the establishment responsible for sharing must have registered a police report about the fact.

The establishment may be held responsible if it publishes false images.

After passing through the committees, the text goes to the plenary for voting. Then, if approved, it is sent for sanction or veto by the President of the Republic. The bill has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies.
