Iran challenges US to choose between a ‘bad deal’ and an ‘impossible military operation’

The situation between the two countries has remained stagnant since the ceasefire came into force on April 8, after almost 40 days of Israeli-American attacks against Iran and reprisals from Tehran in the region.

A Iranian Revolutionary Guard defied the United Statesthis Sunday (3), to choose between a “impossible” military operation and a “bad deal” with Tehran, after US President Donald Trump downplayed Iran’s latest proposal to end the war.

The situation between the two countries has remained stagnant since the ceasefire came into force on April 8, after almost 40 days of Israeli-American attacks against Iran and reprisals from Tehran in the region.

Diplomatic efforts were unable to reactivate the fruitless negotiations held on April 11 in Islamabad, due to deep differences on issues such as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

“The United States’ room for maneuver in decision-making has diminished,” said the Revolutionary Guard’s intelligence service, in a statement broadcast on public television.

“Trump must choose between an impossible operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he insisted.

It is body mentioned an Iranian “ultimatum” about the American blockade of Iranian ports and a “change in tone” by China, Russia and Europe towards the United States.

“I will review the plan”

On Saturday, the American president put in doubt the possibility of accepting the Iranian proposal. “I will soon review the plan that Iran has just sent us, but I cannot imagine that it will be acceptable, as they have not yet paid a high enough price for what they have done to Humanity and the world in the last 47 years”, he declared on his platform, Truth Social.

According to Iranian news agencies, Tehran transmitted to Washington, through Pakistan, a 14-point plan to end the military conflict within 30 days.

The Tasnim agency states that Tehran demands the withdrawal of American forces from areas close to Iran, the lifting of the blockade of ports and the freezing of Iranian assets, the payment of compensation, the suspension of sanctions, a “mechanism” for the Strait of Hormuz and “the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon”.

This country was drawn into war when the pro-Iranian group Hezbollah attacked Israel to avenge the death of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the bombings, on February 28.

This Sunday, Israel ordered the “urgent” evacuation of areas located beyond the sector it controls in southern Lebanon and which it designates as a “security zone”.

The Tasnim agency did not mention the nuclear program, a crucial issue for the United States and Israel, which accuse Iran of wanting to develop the atomic bomb. Tehran denies having this intention.

Iran had already sent a proposal to the United States through Pakistan this week. No details were given about this.

“If they misbehave”

The war left thousands of victims, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, and its repercussions shook the world economy, with oil prices reaching unprecedented levels since 2022.

Although the bombings have ceased, the conflict persists in other forms: Washington imposes a blockade on Iranian portsin response to Tehran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which, before the war, a fifth of the hydrocarbons consumed in the world passed.

Journalists asked Trump on Saturday what could lead to a resumption of bombings against Iran. He was vague in his answer: “If they behave badly, if they do something bad, but at this point we will see.”

“It is a possibility that could occur, without a doubt,” he said. Theoretically, the president had until Friday to request authorization from Congress to continue the war.

He preferred to send a letter to congressmen to notify them that hostilities with Iran have “ended.”
