Iran: Reports of a US frigate being hit by missiles in the Straits of Hormuz

Belgium: Explosion at a synagogue in Liege, what the authorities say

A naval warship that was trying to enter them was hit by two Iranians as it sailed near Jask Island, Iran’s Fars news agency reported, citing local sources.

The US warship ignored Iranian warnings, according to Fars.

At the same time, according to what was broadcast by state television, the Iranian navy claimed to have prevented the entry of American warships into the Straits of Hormuz.

The development comes shortly after US President Donald Trump announced the start of US operations to ensure ships can pass through the Straits safely, while US officials are quick to deny Iranian reports of a ship strike.

The report was denied by the Central Command of the US forces, Centcom, which was quick to reject the claims broadcast by Iranian media.

In a post on X, Centcom asserted that the “reality” is that “no US Navy ship has been hit,” while emphasizing that US forces continue to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

What is the context?

Iran has warned the US navy not to enter the Strait of Hormuz after Donald Trump said the United States would start today to “uncatch” ships stuck in the strategic sea lane.

The US president called the operation a “humanitarian gesture” as many of the ships are facing food shortages. However, Tehran warned that such a move would be seen as a ceasefire violation.

Iran imposed a blockade on foreign ships passing through the strait shortly after the start of the war, which erupted after a US-Israeli attack on February 28 that killed the country’s former supreme leader. For his part, Trump, under increasing domestic pressure to restore navigation in the vital passage, moved on April 13 to impose an embargo on ships using Iranian ports.
