PT goes to the STF against reducing Bolsonaro’s sentences – 05/05/2026 – Politics

The will take action against the overturn of the president’s veto on the dosimetry project, which reduces the sentences of those convicted of attempted coups, including the former president (). The decision was confirmed to the Sheet by the party leader in the Chamber, deputy Pedro Uczai (PT-SC).

No, the dosimetry project reduces the time spent in a closed regime from the current range of 6 to 8 years to between 2 years and 4 months and 4 years and 2 months, depending on the interpretation. The former president was sentenced in 2025 to 27 years and three months in prison for five crimes, as leader of the coup plot.

The parliamentarian stated that the PT is only waiting for the law to be enacted before calling the STF. Congress officially informed Planalto on Monday (4). Therefore, Lula has until this Wednesday (6) to promulgate it.

Officially, the PT will argue formal unconstitutionality, pointing out a violation of the legislative process because Congress did not appreciate all the provisions of the total and material veto, pointing out supposed violations of the Constitution.

There is little expectation of success in the STF. The assessment among government officials is that, as there are fingerprints of ministers from the court itself in the construction of the dosimetry project, the Supreme Court would be unlikely to overturn the text.

For the PT, however, there is an interest in calling the STF to keep the matter on the rise. The party wants to use the overturning of the dosimetry veto to question. The overturn of the veto was articulated in exchange for suspending the pressure for the establishment of the joint CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) on Banco Master.

“Let’s expose the agreement. The victors of last week are the criminal organization that attempted a coup against democracy, with the overturning of the veto, and that of the Master bank. This was the ‘victory’ of the agreement, which on the one hand overturned the dosimetry and on the other protected Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the congressmen involved with the Master, overturning the CPI. This agreement was clear”, said Uczai.

The opposition spent months asking for a CPI to investigate the Master scandal, but this led to an impasse in overturning the dosimetry veto. This type of commission is mandatory to be installed in the first session of Congress after the necessary signatures have been gathered.

Thus, Alcolumbre indicated that he would not call the Congress meeting to overturn the veto because he wanted to avoid the installation of the CPI. The session was called only after the construction of an agreement with Bolsonaro supporters so that the opposition would not ask, during the overturn of the veto, for the commission to be opened. In fact, Flávio Bolsonaro’s PL did not push for the opening of the collegiate.

VETO OVERVOID

Lula’s veto was reviewed last Thursday (30) with the votes of 318 deputies and 49 senators. This way, the original proposal will become law. At least 257 votes from deputies and 41 votes from senators were needed, computed separately.

Until the start of the session, there was doubt about what solution Congress would present to prevent the overturning of Lula’s veto from affecting the toughening of penalties for other crimes, such as criminal organizations and feminicide.

This would happen because of the changes made by the Anti-Faction Law, which made it difficult for certain crimes to progress to regimes. This way, by overturning Lula’s veto, the previous rules could come into effect again.

On Tuesday (28), the Chamber to resolve the issue. However, Alcolumbre decided to resolve the controversy through the presidency and declared the articles of the project that conflict with the Anti-Faction Law to be null and void. It is this maneuver that will support the PT’s questioning in the STF.
