City birds are used to people. They pick between shoes, ignore buggies and dogs and only avoid joggers at the last moment. But the animals are obviously not as indifferent to us as we seem. Whoever approaches them seems to make a difference to them. It matters how loud, fast or tall the person who comes along is – but especially whether it is a woman or a man.
