Palmeiras’ Paraguayan striker, shirt number 19, Ramon Sosa, celebrates with Palmeiras’ Argentine striker, shirt number 42, José Manuel López, after scoring his team’s second goal

With the absence of the injured Vitor Roque, Ramón Sosa assumed the partnership with Flaco López in Palmeiras’ attack. The new duo, game after game, has proven to be of great value and has been responsible for leading the Alviverde team to victories. This Tuesday (05), the Paraguayan and the Argentine scored and secured a 2-0 victory over Sporting Cristal, at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, in Lima, in the fourth round of the Libertadores group stage.

In addition to Sosa and López, the person who has deserved applause is goalkeeper Carlos Miguel. The archer has made great saves and prevented the team from conceding some goals. Furthermore, Palmeiras once again suffered from a lackluster start, but later adjusted and could have scored if they had better aim.

With the result, Palmeiras takes the lead in Group F with eight points and leaves Sporting Cristal in second place with six. The round will only conclude on Thursday, at 11pm, with the match between Junior (one point) and Cerro Porteño (four points), in Barranquilla.

Palmeiras returns to the field on Sunday, at 4pm, visiting Remo, in Belém, for the Brasileirão. For Libertadores, the next match is scheduled for May 20th, at 9:30 pm, in front of Cerro Porteño, at Nubank Parque.

With loose marking, Palmeiras demonstrated difficulty in containing Sporting Cristal’s momentum in the first minutes of the duel. The Alviverde team only managed to attack after 10 minutes, although with little precision in finishing. The home team remained more dangerous.

After the rehydration break, Palmeiras became a little more connected. Arthur hit a beautiful left-footed shot and almost scored from outside the box. Marlon Freitas also drew sighs from the fans.

At 32, Arias received a pass from Marlon Freitas on the left side and crossed into the center of the area. Flaco López came from behind and hit firmly, with a plate, to put Palmeiras in advantage. The goal gave more motivation to Palmeiras, who accumulated goals lost with Arias and Allan.

On the way back from the break, Sporting Cristal even tried, but in a counterattack set up by Arias, Flaco López, on the left, lifted the ball into the area, defender Lutiger presented Ramón Sosa with a perfect assist, in the 5th minute, for Palmeiras to extend their advantage.

Palmeiras remained slightly superior, adding lost goals, while Sporting Cristal insisted on some offensive moves.

After 30 minutes, the control of the game passed to the control of the Peruvian team. Carlos Miguel needed to act to avoid discounting the score.

In the last turns of the clock, Abel Ferreira fielded Paulinho, who spent more than 300 days without playing and returned to the field in the draw with Santos, last weekend. He replaced Flaco López.
