Sudden temperature fluctuations await Slovakia. As the portal informs, we must prepare for a sharp temperature jump, during which the mercury of the thermometer will attack the tropical limit of 30 °C. It will be the highlight of this year so far, but the summer idyll will soon follow showers and thunderstorms will follow, ending this brief period of stability.
A large pressure area dominates our territory, thanks to which we were able to enjoy calm and sunny days without precipitation. A reversal is already on the horizon, as clouds are moving towards us from the west associated with an approaching cold front and a shallow depression over the Alps. It is this flow that pushes a wave of extremely warm air in front of it, which peaks.
The influx of warm air from the southwest has begun raise temperatures above 25 °C at the beginning of the week. He brought the peak of warming highs climbing to 29°Cwhile it was the hottest in the southeast of the country. In some places it was not even excluded breaking the magical limit of 30 °C, which made the last few days the hottest period of the entire week.
High temperatures will meet the arrival of precipitation. While in France, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, significant and potentially dangerous storm activity prevailed at the beginning of the week, in our territory the calmer nature of the weather prevailed.
We will fully feel the break in the form of cooling during Wednesday, May 6. A cold front will move over our territory and definitively end the heat wave. Whether it will be joined by intense storms remains questionable. Although the first precipitation may appear mainly in central and northern Slovakia, the latest outputs of numerical models are more restrained in the matter of storm intensity for now. However, a noticeable drop in temperatures, which will replace the previous extremely warm days, remains a certainty.
