Sharif, whose country acts as a mediator in the negotiations between the United States and Iran, also thanked US President Donald Trump for suspending Operation Project Freedom, which Washington said was supposed to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
“I am grateful to President Donald Trump for his courageous leadership and for his timely announcement of the termination of Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz,” said Sharif in a post on the X platform.
The White House chief earlier said the decision to halt the project was made to see if a deal could be struck with Iran and follows requests from Pakistan and other countries. “President Trump’s kind response will go a long way in strengthening regional peace, stability and reconciliation at this sensitive time,” said the Pakistani Prime Minister. “We deeply hope that current developments will lead to a lasting agreement that will ensure lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond,” he added.
