President takes a delegation with 5 ministers and general director of the PF; Lula will discuss trade issues and the fight against organized crime with the US president
The president (PT) arrived this Wednesday (May 6, 2026) at night in Washington, in the United States, at around 10pm (9pm local time). The PT member will meet with the President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party) on Thursday (May 7, 2026) at the White House. Lula traveled on a FAB (Brazilian Air Force) plane. The presidential delegation is made up of ministers Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), Wellington César Lima e Silva (Justice and Public Security), Dario Durigan (Finance), Márcio Elias Rosa (Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) and Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy). The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, will also participate in the meeting at the White House, in Washington. The 2 main issues to be discussed at the meeting are the fight against organized crime and trade issues. Relations between the countries were strained in 2025, when Trump announced tariffs on Brazilian products. The expectation is that the president will return to Brazil on the same day.
