Former President of the Republic was honored by the Portuguese Football Federation. It was an “excellent surprise”.
The former President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Souzahe was honored by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) for the contribution given to soccer Portuguese and the institution itself throughout their mandates.
The ceremony took place in Cidade do Futebol, where Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was received by the president of the FPF, Pedro Proença, and by federation officials, in an initiative that the former president considered an “excellent surprise”.
During the meeting, he received a symbolic souvenir with several moments of his connection with the FPF, sharing memories and episodes of his relationship with Portuguese football.
“I’m a Portugal fanatic and I’m a football fanatic”he stated, remembering his old connection with the sport, which dates back to 1973, when he represented the Angra do Heroísmo Football Association.
The former president also evoked the family influence in choosing his favorite club and moments experienced throughout his terms at sporting events, in a record marked by his usual humor.
At the end, he referred to the World Cup that Portugal will compete in, stressing that it will be the “first in times of war”, defending football as “a path to peace and unity”.
