Military parachutist involved in fall in Tancos died

Ismael Lamela was a furriel. He was admitted to the São José Hospital, brain dead. Army mourns death.

One of military paratroopers involved in a fall during a training session on Tuesday, in Tancos,he died today, the Army announced.

“The Brazilian Army communicates, with deep regret, the death of furriel Ismael José Silva Lamelaborn in Barcelos, district of Braga, who was admitted to Hospital de São José, in Lisbon”, reads a note sent to the press.

The death of the soldier, who was brain dead, was declared at 12:20 pm.

Ismael had been seriously injured in a parachute jump during the Parachuting Course, in Tancos.

First he was at Abrantes Hospital and then he was admitted to São José Hospital. He was in an induced coma, initially.

The accident, describes the , occurred on Tuesday during the last jump of the course, when rolled up their parachutes in the air of the two victims (this furriel and a second sergeant).

The origin of this incident would have been the fact that the two soldiers had reserve parachutes deployed too late. Both fell to the ground, in a strong and dangerous fall.

The other victim, the second sergeant, remains under observation at Leiria Hospital.
