The Government of São Paulo announced that the CNH (National Driving License) in the state costs from now on R$ 105.66, which makes it the cheapest in Brazil.
The value refers to the scheduling fees for the theoretical and practical exams for the first license.
The driver can also opt for the digital version of the driver’s license for free, which is accessed via cell phone and has the same legal validity.
“Today, people have more freedom of choice and a significantly lower cost to obtain a license. We are modernizing the system without compromising security, offering the cheapest driver’s license in Brazil”, says Lucas Papais, director of Citizen Services at Detran-SP.
The measure could benefit around 5 million people per year in the State. Previously, issuing the physical version was mandatory and generated a fee of R$137.79 for the production and sending of the document.
To obtain the driver’s license, the theoretical course became online and free and the minimum mandatory number of hours of practical classes dropped from 20 to 2 hours.
Now, citizens can choose between a driving school or an accredited independent instructor,
The other costs of the process are paid directly to accredited professionals. The value of each assessment was reduced to R$90.
