The statement echoes a narrative that has been circulating behind the scenes in northeastern politics since the scandal came to light
Deputy Rodrigo Valadares (PL-SE) used this Thursday (7) to charge the Federal Police with what it calls the real origin of the Banco Master scandal. For the parliamentarian from Sergipe, the investigation, which has already accumulated five phases and targets figures from the right and the center, has not yet reached where it should be. “Whoever made a mistake in relation to Banco Master should pay and let the PF do its job. Now it makes us strange that we didn’t reach the embryo of this case, which is the PT of Bahia”, he stated in an interview with Young Pan.
The statement echoes a narrative that has been circulating behind the scenes in northeastern politics since the scandal came to light: that Banco Master had built part of its political influence based on connections with the Bahian PT, a party that has dominated the state for decades and that has commanded the government since 2007. Valadares, who is from Sergipe and presents himself as knowledgeable about the regional political environment, said that the subject is not new to those who work in the field. “Every Northeasterner in politics knows this,” he stated.
The parliamentarian also said he hopes that the corporation does not look at acronyms when advancing investigations. “We expect the PF to carry out its work without looking at party affiliation and go where everyone knows where this scandal is gestating”, he declared to Jovem Pan. The accusation comes amid a growing debate about the selectivity of the investigations into the Master case, with the opposition pushing for the installation of a CPMI which, according to parliamentarians in favor of the commission, would allow progress beyond what the criminal investigations have already revealed.
