The month of May has a special phenomenon in the sky: the Blue Moon. Scheduled to take place between the night of the 30th and the early hours of the 31st of May, people will be able to watch the event from anywhere in the world.
Despite the name, the moon is not, in fact, blue. . The first took place on May 1st and the second is scheduled for the end of the period.
This will be the only Blue Moon of 2026, which usually only happens every two or three years.

In addition to being the second full moon of the month, it will also be observed from the greatest distance from Earth in 2026 — a phenomenon known as a micromoon. In this case, the star will be at the furthest point in its orbit in relation to planet Earth, making its view appear smaller and less bright.
According to EarthSky, it is estimated to appear between 12% and 14% smaller than a supermoon, when the Moon is closest to Earth, and about 7% smaller than a regular full moon.
The Blue Moon will also be close to the bright star Antares, in the constellation Scorpius.
