A councilor from São José do Campos accuses him of paying expenses for a legal case that he is filing with money from his parish, located in the Mooca neighborhood, in São Paulo.
According to the complaint, Lancellotti used the church’s account to pay off two Dare bills (State Revenue Collection Document) last year: one for R$450 in February and another for R$1,200 in November.
The bank receipts were attached by councilor Thomaz Henrique (PL) in a complaint against the parish priest made to the Archdiocese of São Paulo.
“The Metropolitan Curia of São Paulo received, on Friday, May 8, a canonical representation forwarded by councilor Thomaz Henrique regarding Father Júlio Lancellotti,” said the Archdiocese in a note to the Panel.
“Its content will be analyzed in due course by the competent bodies of the Archdiocese of São Paulo”, he added.
When contacted by the column this Friday afternoon (8), Lancellotti wrote that he was not aware of the facts.
The payment refers to the payment of costs for a lawsuit he filed against councilor Janaina Ballaris (União Brasil), from Praia Grande, for slander and defamation, in 2024, requesting compensation of R$30,000 for moral damages.
In an interview, she associated the priest with media assistance. The São Paulo Court of Justice denied the compensation request, however.
