Colégio Alemão, in Porto, will open an “independent investigation” into an alleged attack by a Choir teacher on a student and announced the suspension of that activity, according to a communication to which Lusa had access today.
In an email message dated Friday, that educational establishment confirms that “a complaint was made by the parents of a student that the student had been physically attacked by the person responsible” for the optional Choir activity.
“The situation is not yet clear, and the people involved described different perceptions of what happened. This is precisely why an independent inquiry is necessary and appropriate”, explains the College.
The same communication to those in charge of education states that “the activity in question will be suspended from next Monday until the conclusion of the investigation”which, according to the text, will be carried out “by an external and independent entity”.
The institution also asks parents to “refrain from speculative conversations, including on social media and in parenting groups, until the research is complete.”
The College justifies that request by arguing that “hasty judgments can harm or hinder a serious and impartial investigation of the facts”.
To Lusa, PSP source confirmed “that a complaint was filed on Tuesday regarding facts” that occurred at that institution.
Contacted by Lusa, the College, through a written response, on Friday, confirmed that he was aware of the alleged aggression, stating that as it was “a matter under analysis and subject to internal procedures (…), will not comment publicly on the matter.”
In the letter sent to the parents, the institution recognizes that “moments like these can affect children and families”which is why it made the College’s psychology service available to parents and students.
