United Kingdom sends vessels to Hormuz

Ship dispatch is to protect transport of British naval vessels; US demands proposal from Iran

The United Kingdom announced this Saturday (May 9, 2026) that it will send its warship HMS Dragon to the Middle East. The aim is to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The information was released by the British agency .

In March this year, the United Kingdom had already sent an HMS Dragon to the Middle East to help defend Cyprus, after the start of the war between the USA and Iran.

“The pre-positioning of HMS Dragon is part of the prudent planning that will ensure the UK is ready, as part of a multinational coalition led jointly by the UK and France, to secure the Straits when conditions permit.”said a spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense.
