The PDT declared this Monday (11) support for the candidacy of the former minister (Environment) for the Senate in São Paulo.
The decision was sealed at a lunch between the party’s state president, Antonio Neto, and the national president of the PSOL-Rede federation, Juliano Medeiros, in São Paulo.
“Marina actually has a lot of similarities with us, on issues such as the defense of indigenous peoples and sustainability”, says Neto.
He adds that Marina’s candidacy would provide more balance between the left-wing parties for the state ticket. PED support is an asset for the former minister in her dispute with Márcio França (PSB), who is also seeking the position;
“It is necessary to form a party front to support the candidacy of [Fernando] Haddad. The PT already has a candidate for government, the PSB already has Simone’s candidacy [Tebet] or Márcio for the Senate”, says Neto.
He added that the PSB is also considering the presence of Geraldo Alckmin on the vice-presidential ticket with Lula. One solution that has been studied is for França to be Marina’s substitute for the Senate.
