For the post of head coach of the Slovak national football team, according to information from the portal, after a fourteen-year hiatus, Vladimír Weiss Sr. returns. The official confirmation of his appointment should take place on Tuesday after the meeting of the SFZ Executive Committee.
The experienced strategist, who currently leads ŠK Slovan Bratislava, will replace current coach Francesco Calzona in the national team. His current contract with Slovan Bratislava, which is valid for another year, should not be an obstacle either. The signing of the contract with the union itself is considered only a formality, since Weiss Sr., according to available information, received the green light from the management of the “Whites”.
Vladimír Weiss Sr. is still signed under the greatest success in the history of the Slovak national team. As the only coach, he led the “falcons” to the world championship (2010), where after a memorable triumph over the reigning world champions from Italy, he advanced with the team to the round of 16.
The veteran helmsman should lead the national team already in the preparatory double match in June. The Slovaks will first challenge Malta in Dunajská Streda on June 1, and four days later (June 5) they will face Montenegro in Trnava.
