The Moroccan army announced on Sunday that the body of one of two American soldiers who went missing during an international military exercise had been found. The search in the Cap Draa training area in the south of Morocco on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean continues, writes TASR according to the AFP agency.
The Moroccan army said in a statement that on Saturday the body of one of two soldiers who went missing near a coastal cliff during the African Lion 2026 military exercise was pulled from the sea. A US military official told AFP on condition of anonymity on Sunday evening that the soldiers probably fell into the sea in an accident, and he ruled out terrorism.
The search involved military ships, helicopters and aerial drones covering an area of more than 8,000 square kilometers, as well as cave divers and an unmanned underwater vehicle. Exercise African Lion 2026 started back in April and was supposed to end on May 8, according to the official plan. Almost 5,000 soldiers from more than 40 countries and experts specializing in security and defense participated in it.
