The Public Security Committee in the Chamber analyzes, this Tuesday (12), a bill that intends to authorize workers to use amounts from the Service Time Guarantee Fund, the FGTS, to purchase firearms.
Authored by deputy Marcos Pollon (PL-MS), the proposal authorizes the withdrawal of amounts from the account linked to the FGTS annually by workers on their birthday or on the fifth subsequent business day. The text was reported to the committee by deputy Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP) and received a favorable opinion.
According to the proposal, for the withdrawal to be valid, it will be necessary to present a document proving regularity with the National Weapons System or the Military Weapons Management System, in addition to a valid authorization for acquisition. The value of the withdrawal will be limited to the amount necessary to purchase the firearm and the annual quota of ammunition corresponding to the model purchased.
In justifying the project, Pollon argues that the measure “harmonizes the constitutional principles of human dignity, the right to self-defense and individual freedom, with the social function of the FGTS, ensuring citizens the full exercise of their legitimate defense”.
For the author, the current national situation demonstrates an exponential growth in urban violence and crimes against property, generating a feeling of “generalized insecurity among Brazilians” and leading citizens to the need to seek protection within the “limits of legality”.
