The Municipality of Lagoa will mark, on May 15th, the reopening of the now called Lagoa Congress Center, a facility that aims to establish itself as a reference infrastructure in the Algarve for congresses, culture, tourism and major events.
The space, previously known as Pavilhão do Arade and later as Centro de Congressos do Arade, was opened in 2008, but ended up closing after the insolvency of the owner company, remaining vacant for several years and subject to acts of vandalism and degradation.
The acquisition of the property by the city hall, carried out at the end of 2022 for R$2.5 million, marked the beginning of the equipment’s recovery. The requalification intervention represented a municipal investment of around 2 million euros.
According to the municipality, the work allowed the return of “functionality, safety, accessibility, energy efficiency and modernity” to an infrastructure considered strategic for the municipality.
Municipality invests in business tourism
Located next to the Arade River and with architectural differences, the Lagoa Congress Center was prepared to host congresses, fairs, exhibitions, shows, business meetings and large-scale cultural initiatives.
The municipality considers that the reopening also represents a bet on business tourism, reinforcing Lagoa’s attractiveness for national and international events throughout the year.
The mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação, highlights that “the Lagoa Congress Center is a strategic infrastructure for the future of the municipality”.
The mayor adds that this reopening “reinforces the ambition of affirming Lagoa as a reference destination for business tourism and for holding major national and international events”.
The program for the first days of operation includes several musical shows. On May 15th, at 9pm, the Algarve Jazz Orchestra will take the stage, with the participation of Rita Redshoes.
The following day, May 16th, at 6pm, the work “Carmina Burana”, by Carl Orff, will be performed by the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra.
Still on the same day, at 10pm, the Portuguese DJ and producer KURA will perform.
Tickets for the shows are available through the platform.
With this reopening, the Municipality of Lagoa considers returning to the Algarve “a space of excellence, prepared to respond to the current demands of the events sector and to assume a central role in the cultural, economic and tourist promotion of the territory”.
