Sinner equals record for consecutive wins at Masters 1000 – 12/05/2026 – Sport

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, number 1 in the world, qualified for the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Rome by defeating his compatriot Andrea Pellegrino (155th) this Tuesday (12), equaling Novak Djokovic’s record of 31 consecutive victories in this tournament category, the most important after the Grand Slams.

Sinner closed the game in 2 sets to 0, with partials of 6/2 and 6/3, in 1h29 of the match, and put an end to Pellegrino’s adventure in Rome, who left the qualifying and reached the round of 16 without ever having won a Masters 1000 match before.

In the quarterfinals, against Russian Andrey Rublev (14th), who eliminated Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (117th), Sinner will have the opportunity to overtake Djokovic and continue in the fight for a sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title, after winning in Paris last year and in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid this year.

His last defeat in a Masters 1000 came on October 5, 2025, when he had to abandon his match against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the third round of the Shanghai tournament.

The Masters 1000 in Rome is, moreover, the only one missing from Sinner’s trophy gallery, who could be the first Italian to win at home since Adriano Panatta, in 1976.

If he manages to win the final next Sunday, Sinner will also become the second player, after Novak Djokovic, to win all nine Masters 1000s on the calendar.

The Italian has won the last 26 games he has played and has not lost since the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 in Doha, in February.
