What is known about the explosion in the West Zone of São Paulo that left one dead

Three people were injured in the incident; Fire department continues to search for other victims

Incident was possibly caused by a gas explosion

One explosion reached this Monday (11) at least 35 houses and apartment windows blew out in a condominium in the Jaguaré neighborhood, in West Zone of São Paulo. According to information from the Military Police of the State of São Paulo (PMESP), one person died at the scene e three were injured.

The Fire Department was activated around 4:08 p.m. to respond to an incident in a community close to Dr. Benedito de Moraes Leme and Piraúna streets, behind Condomínio Morada do Parque, with active fire in multiple residences and strong smell of gas.

In a note, the government of São Paulo informed that the power outage in the region as a security measure.

At around 7:20 p.m., the condominium residents they were allowed to return home.

Victims

A man he was forwarded to the Osasco Regional Hospital com chest injury. One woman he was served at the site of the explosion Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).

One employee of the Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo (Sabesp) he was rescued by residents and taken to the Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Lapa before firefighters arrive.

According to the Fire Department, people were thrown by the explosion and others were buried.

PMESP reported that the firefighters will continue searching for victims until meeting or confirmation of the whereabouts of all residents of the affected houses.

Possible gas explosion

According to information from the Fire Department, the incident was possibly caused by , popularly known as cooking gas. The incident, according to PMESP, would have been result of an action by Sabesp. The corporation announced that “the reasons will be confirmed to the final of the expert work“.

Residents of the region reported that the team from Sabesp carried out works in the region. In a note, the São Paulo Gas Company (Comgás) said it had received call at 3:15 pm on gas leak caused by a “third party work”. The dealership stated that a team arrived at the scene around 3:37 p.m. and “eliminated the leak”. The company further clarified that did not perform maintenance in the region.
